Key West Fishing 06-11-10

Inshore fishing continues to be red hot down here in Key West. Our experienced captains have been leading plenty of successful half-day and full-day charters to the Atlantic reef, the saltwater flats, and the Key West Harbor for some light tackle fishing. This time of year is the prime season for light tackle because both Yellowtail Snapper and Mutton Snapper are spawning on the reef and Tarpon have been biting well in Key West Harbor.

Our charter boats have been hitting the reef south of Key West at two key points in the day. In the mornings, the Yellowtail Snapper have hitting the cut bait with a vengeance. Initially, we had been catching our limit on every trip, but lately we've been snagging larger Yellowtails weighing around five pounds, but not quite as many. In the late afternoon, the Mutton Snapper are most active at the reef. Our captains chum to draw in the Snapper, and set up our clients with cut bait on spinning rods.

If you are visiting Key West, you cannot miss your chance to land a trophy Tarpon. On our half-day afternoon charters into the Harbor, our groups have been consistently hooking an average of five of these great game fish per trip.

We look forward to seeing you in Key West,

Capt. Chris Garcia
