Key West Fishing 04-04-16

Now that the spring temperatures have arrived in the Florida Keys, fishing has really ramped up. With the wind coming from the east, it is an excellent time to head offshore to fish at the border of the Gulf Stream. Utilizing live Herring and small Blue Runners, Capt. Damon guided a party to land a few trophy Sailfish surpassing eight feet in length aboard the Outcast. All of our offshore charters have experienced success fishing for these feisty billfish. April is the apex of the Sailfish run past the Keys.

In addition to Sailfish, quite a few Blackfins and dozens of Bonita have been landed near the color change of the Gulf Stream. On the Coolwater, our own Capt. Bill saw a client pull in an Amberjack tipping the scales at more than eighty pounds.

Friday, on the Coolcast, I led a shark fishing charter in the flats where anglers snagged Lemons, Bulls, and Blacktip Reef Sharks weighing around 250 lbs. These apex predators swarmed the boat after I chummed the water with cut Bonita and Barracuda. I used filets of the same fish to bait the hooks.

We look forward to seeing you in Key West,

Captain Chris Garcia
