Key West Fishing 04-09-16

Since the winds were favorable, several of our charter boats ventured from Key West into the Gulf of Mexico to fish at rockpiles; on the Coolcast, I was thrilled to see one of my anglers hook a thirty-two pound King Mackerel. While skippering the Outcast, Dan Smith led a client to snag a Cobia weighing more than forty pounds. Meanwhile, Bill Wallace explored the Atlantic wrecks aboard the Coolwater to hunt for the bountiful Amberjack and Mutton Snapper.

Every spring off the reef south of Key West, the Permit become active during their spawning season. When the moon is full, these feisty sport-fish invade the reef; our captains will be there, providing exhilarating fishing excursion to our clients. We've found the best results utilizing 20-lb. test line on spinning rods with green crabs for bait. We've already seen a few Permit biting in the harbor while we've been fishing for Tarpon. Just today, I piloted the Coolcast in to Key West Harbor for a half-day excursion; I am pleased to report that my anglers managed to bring in 3 Tarpon.

This coming week, we expect the winds to change for the better on the Atlantic side of the Keys. Anglers will be delighted by the activity of the Sailfish offshore during their annual migration.

We look forward to seeing you in Key West,

Captain Chris Garcia
