Key West Fishing 04-23-16

The wind and wave conditions were excellent in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday, so I guided a charter northwest from Key West aboard the Coolcast. In the morning, we pursued two different shrimp boats to cast for the plentiful Blackfin Tuna that anticipate some discarded bycatch from the shrimpers. Behind the first boat, my clients nailed five Tuna, as well as some Bonita, and a twenty eight lb. Cobia. An apex predator, a huge Hammerhead, could be viewed near the boat as well. Behind the second trawler, we caught seven more Blackfin Tuna in addition to a two hundred and fifty lb. Bull Shark on thirty lb. test line.

After the shrimp boats headed back with their catch, we zipped over to fish near the structure of a communication tower. Located forty three miles northwest of Key West, S Tower is an excellent place to fish for Cobia, Snapper, and Amberjack. My anglers nabbed some Yellowtails, fifteen Amberjack, and a Cobia weighing over thirty five lbs. After such a bountiful excursion on Tuesday, I'm leading another Gulf charter on Wednesday.

We look forward to seeing you in Key West,

Captain Damon Santelli
